REPLACEMENT

1. REMOVE ENGINE UNDER COVER

2. DRAIN DIFFERENTIAL OIL

3. REMOVE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (See REMOVAL )

4. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE

a. Using a chisel and hammer, loosen the staked part of the nut.

b. Using SST to hold the flange, remove the nut.

c. Using SST, remove the companion flange.

5. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL

a. Using SST, remove the oil seal.

SST 09308-10010

6. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION OIL SLINGER

a. Remove the oil slinger.

7. REMOVE FRONT DRIVE PINION REAR TAPERED ROLLER BEARING

a. Using SST, remove the rear bearing from the drive pinion.

b. Remove the bearing spacer.

8. REMOVE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL DRIVE PINION BEARING SPACER

a. Using SST, remove the rear bearing from the drive pinion.

SST 09556-22010

b. Remove the bearing spacer.

9. INSTALL BEARING SPACER, REAR BEARING AND OIL SLINGER

a. Install a new bearing spacer and place the rear bearing and oil slinger.

b. Using SST and the companion flange, install the rear bearing, then remove the companion flange. SST 09950-30012 (09951-03010, 09953-03010, 09954-03010, 09955-03030, 09956-03020)

10. INSTALL FRONT DIFFERENTIAL CARRIER OIL SEAL

a. Coat a new oil seal lip with MP grease.

b. Using SST and a hammer, install the oil seal.

Oil seal drive in depth: 4.5 +- 0.3 mm (0.177 +- 0.012 in.)

11. INSTALL FRONT DRIVE PINION COMPANION FLANGE

a. Place the companion flange on the drive pinion.

b. Coat the threads of a new nut with hypoid gear oil.

c. Using SST to hold the flange, torque the nut.

12. ADJUST DRIVEN PINION PRELOAD

(See REASSEMBLY ).

13. STAKE DRIVE PINON NUT

14. INSTALL FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT ASSEMBLY (See INSTALLATION )

15. FILL DIFFERENTIAL OIL Torque: 39 N*m (400 kgf*cm, 29 ft.*lbf) Oil type: Hypoid gear oil API GL-5 Recommended oil viscosity: SAE 75W-90 Capacity: 1.15 liters (1.22 US qts, 1.01 Imp. qts)

16. INSTALL ENGINE UNDER COVER
